Satan’s Work Dismembered

BHS and 1John 3:1-10

See what great love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called children of God! And that is what we are! The reason the world does not know us is that it did not know him. (1 John 3:1 NIV)

The enemy, the disobedient, those who rebelled against God have become His children because of Him! That is a love that only God is capable of. It has such a profound effect on the Believer that the World, the domain of the Unbeliever, cannot fathom the reasons we are what we are. The reason they do not is that they do not believe in The Sacrifice. Not even the need for Him

Dear friends, now we are children of God, and what we will be has not yet been made known. But we know that when Christ appears, we shall be like him, for we shall see him as he is. (1 John 3:2 NIV)

What a comfort we have! Even though we cannot imagine what we will be like, it has been said, In God’s word, “we shall be like Christ.” As he lifts us bodily into Heaven we shall see the “hope” we have had.

Now faith is confidence in what we hope for and assurance about what we do not see. (Hebrews 11:1 NIV)

One thing I love about studying the Greek language is the strength of its words. Strength that is hard to translate into English. If you want to see the differences look up the separate Greek words in Hebrews 11:1 and see the range of each word’s meanings! It goes way beyond the English. It is also breathtaking!

All who have this hope in him purify themselves, just as he is pure. (1 John 3:3 NIV)

We, who have accepted Christ’s sacrifice to pay the penalty for our sins, “purifying ourselves,” by availing to our selves, The Law of the Spirit of Life…

because through Christ Jesus the law of the Spirit who gives life has set you free from the law of sin and death. (Romans 8:2 NIV)

the only way we can, through God the Spirit in His Baptism. Any effort on our part puts us back under The Law of The Sin Nature Indwelling…

but I see another law at work in me, waging war against the law of my mind and making me a prisoner of the law of sin at work within me. (Romans 7:23 NIV)

The sting of death is sin, and the power of sin is the law. (1 Corinthians 15:56 NIV)

When you see the singular word “sin” in English, half the time in the Greek it should be translated The Sin. As in The Sin Nature…

1288 ἁμαρτία, ας, ἡ sin; (1) of an act, a departure from doing what is right, equivalent to ἁμάρτημα sin, wrongdoing (1J 5.17); (2) as the moral consequence of having done something wrong sin, guilt (AC 3.19; 1J 1.7); (3) as the nature of wrongdoing viewed as the rejection of God by self-assertive human beings sin, evil (RO 5.12, 13; cf. 1.21); (4) especially in Johannine usage as a moral condition of human beings in revolt against God sin, being evil, sinfulness (JN 9.34; 15.24); (5) especially in Pauline usage as an abstract moral principle or force personified as evil in character sin, evil (RO 6.12); (6) especially in Hebrews as a deceiving power personified as leading human beings to guilt and destruction (HE 3.13; 12.1)

The same is true for the word “flesh.” The personage of The Sin has to have a place to live. It is in The Flesh…

Together they make up The Sin Nature. It has its own law…

but I see another law at work in me, waging war against the law of my mind and making me a prisoner of the law of sin at work within me. (Romans 7:23 NIV)

It even has it’s own source of power…

The sting of death is sin,(The Sin Nature) and the power of sin(The Sin Nature) is the law. (1 Corinthians 15:56 NIV)

When we realize this is why we are suffering…

For I do not do the good I want to do, but the evil I do not want to do– this I keep on doing. (Romans 7:19 NIV)

Everyone who sins breaks the law; in fact, sin is lawlessness. (1 John 3:4 NIV)

Insisting on earning our way into heaven, fulfilling The Mosaic Law is “pride.” We have already proven we cannot do that OR we would not have recognized needing Christ’s sacrifice to pay for the penalty we have earned.

But you know that he appeared so that he might take away our sins. And in him is no sin. (1 John 3:5 NIV)

First John is sometimes described as being written to The Believer. But you have to recognize it does that by contrasting us to the Unbeliever. In getting beyond The Mosaic Law, as a result of The Baptism of God the Spirit, we end up in The Kingdom of Heaven. Its earthly existence is Christ’s Church. It has a different law…

But whoever has doubts is condemned if they eat, because their eating is not from faith; and everything that does not come from faith is sin. (Romans 14:23 NIV)

That is how John can say “in Him is no sin” In 1John 3:5.

You think you have a problem? Turn it over to God Within, God the Spirit. We have learned what happens when we look to Mosaic Law. Automatic rebellion. “The power of The Sin Nature is toggled ‘on.’” Sin happens! We have abandoned The Law of the Spirit Indwelling, our only defense.

That is why it can be said…

No one who lives in him keeps on sinning. No one who continues to sin has either seen him or known him. (1 John 3:6 NIV)

If you have NO confidence in God the Spirit’s work in you, you may NOT be in The Kingdom. You may not have not even availed yourself of The Sacrifice! You could still be under the law, which has to be perfectly kept…

For whoever keeps the whole law and yet stumbles at just one point is guilty of breaking all of it. (James 2:10 NIV)

God took the law out of the Believers life…

having canceled the charge of our legal indebtedness, which stood against us and condemned us; he has taken it away, nailing it to the cross. (Colossians 2:14 NIV)

Most importantly the price of admittance to The Kingdom is…

21981 πίστις, εως, ἡ (1) active, as belief directed toward a person or thing confidence, faith, trust, reliance on (MT 9.2); (2) absolutely, without an object; (a) as the essential Christian religion (the) faith (CO 1.23); (b) as recognition and acceptance of Christian teaching faith (JA 2.17); (c) as a decision to be faithful and loyal to the Christian religion promise, pledge, commitment (1T 5.12); (d) as a conviction that brings certainty faith, assurance (RO 14.22); (e) as a Christian virtue, especially along with hope and love characterizing believers (1TH 1.3); (3) passive; (a) of what brings trust and confidence from others faithfulness, fidelity, reliability (TI 2.10 ); (b) as what inspires confidence pledge, (means of) proof, guarantee (AC 17.31); (4) objectively, as the content of what is believed doctrine, (the) faith (RO 1.5; JU 3)

ANYONE who is in The Kingdom is under The Law of Faith. That Law begins…

because through Christ Jesus the law of the Spirit who gives life has set you free from the law of sin and death. (Romans 8:2 NIV)

Dear children, do not let anyone lead you astray. The one who does what is right is righteous, just as he is righteous. (1 John 3:7 NIV)

An outrageous statement! On the surface! But it is true and only God can do that because He is The Sovereign of the Universe! “The one who does what is right” is living under The law of the Spirit of Life, under faith in God the Spirit, submitting to God the Spirit.

And whom is the “he” spoken of? Christ! Can it be? In God’s eyes we ARE as righteous as He is? How is that possible?

Baptism of The Holy Spirit!!! We are IMMERSED, baptized into, credited with, Christ’s “baptism of fire”…

“You don’t know what you are asking,” Jesus said. “Can you drink the cup I drink or be baptized with the baptism I am baptized with?” 39 “We can,” they answered. Jesus said to them, “You will drink the cup I drink and be baptized with the baptism I am baptized with, (Mark 10:38-39 NIV)

The journey begins: We were, past tense, sanctified.

My prayer is not that you take them out of the world but that you protect them from the evil one. 16 They are not of the world, even as I am not of it. 17 Sanctify them by the truth; your word is truth. 18 As you sent me into the world, I have sent them into the world. 19 For them I sanctify myself, that they too may be truly sanctified. (John 17:15-19 NIV)

When the time came, in God’s own time, we were convicted…

But very truly I tell you, it is for your good that I am going away. Unless I go away, the Advocate will not come to you; but if I go, I will send him to you. 8 When he comes, he will convict the world to be in the wrong about sin and righteousness and judgment: (John 16:7-8 )(Heb. 3:14, 1Thess. 1:5)

Hardest of all to believe: We were crucified!!!

“For through the law I died to the law so that I might live for God. 20 I have been crucified with Christ and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me. The life I now live in the body, I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me. 21 I do not set aside the grace of God, for if righteousness could be gained through the law, Christ died for nothing!” (Galatians 2:19-21 NIV)(Rom. 6:5-6, Gal. 5:24, 6:14)

Next, and harder yet, we WERE BURIED WITH HIM AT THE SAME TIME HE WAS! Over 2000 years ago!!!

Or don’t you know that all of us who were baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into His death? (Romans 6:3 NIV)(Col. 2:12)

All to get us to the place where justification OCCURRED: past tense. Why? That is when ALL mankind was judged, The Old Testament Saints included…

Nor can the gift of God be compared with the result of one man’s sin: The judgment followed one sin and brought condemnation, but the gift followed many trespasses and brought justification. (Romans 5:16 NIV)

For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him. 18 Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe stands condemned already because they have not believed in the name of God’s one and only Son. (John 3:17-18 NIV)

Atonement…

God presented Christ as a sacrifice of atonement, through the shedding of his blood– to be received by faith. He did this to demonstrate his righteousness, because in his forbearance he had left the sins committed beforehand unpunished– (Romans 3:25 NIV)

Redemption…

But when the set time had fully come, God sent his Son, born of a woman, born under the law, 5 to redeem those under the law, that we might receive adoption to sonship. (Galatians 4:4-5 NIV)(Rom. 3:24)

Sinlessness…

Now we know that whatever the law says, it says to those who are under the law, so that every mouth may be silenced and the whole world held accountable to God. (Romans 3:19 NIV)(Psa. 103:12)

because the law brings wrath. And where there is no law there is no transgression. (Romans 4:15 NIV)

IMMORTAL…

And this is the testimony: God has given us eternal life, and this life is in his Son. (1 John 5:11 NIV)

Why do all of this? God wants righteous worshippers to populate Heaven!

Nothing impure will ever enter it, nor will anyone who does what is shameful or deceitful, but only those whose names are written in the Lamb’s book of life. (Revelation 21:27 NIV)

The one who does what is sinful is of the devil, because the devil has been sinning from the beginning. The reason the Son of God appeared was to destroy the devil’s work. (1 John 3:8 NIV)

What can Satan say? As far as God the Father is concerned we accompanied Christ on His journey to save us. He paid the price Adam was sentenced to…

but you must not eat from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, for when you eat from it you will certainly die.” (Genesis 2:17 NIV)

That condemnation included both deaths: physical, by crucifixion, and the second death from which He, and we, were resurrected!!! And life goes on…

For this very reason, make every effort to add to your faith goodness; and to goodness, knowledge; 6 and to knowledge, self-control; and to self-control, perseverance; and to perseverance, godliness; 7 and to godliness, mutual affection; and to mutual affection, love. 8 For if you possess these qualities in increasing measure, they will keep you from being ineffective and unproductive in your knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ. (2 Peter 1:5-8 NIV)(JOHN 17:19, 1THESS. 5:23, 2THESS. 2:13, 1PETER 1:2)

SO IT CAN BE SAID, Those in The Kingdom, where the Mosaic Law does not exist…

No one who is born of God will continue to sin, because God’s seed remains in them; they cannot go on sinning, because they have been born of God. (1 John 3:9 NIV)

The proof we are in The Kingdom is…

set his seal of ownership on us, and put his Spirit in our hearts as a deposit, guaranteeing what is to come. (2 Corinthians 1:22 NIV)

AND…

This is how we know who the children of God are and who the children of the devil are: Anyone who does not do what is right is not God’s child, nor is anyone who does not love their brother and sister. (1 John 3:10 NIV)

LOVE! GOD’S LOVE FOR US AND OUR LOVE FOR EACH OTHER!

120 ἀγάπη, ης, ἡ love; (1) especially as an attitude of appreciation resulting from a conscious evaluation and choice; used of divine and human love love, devotion; (2) plural αἱ ἀγάπαι love feasts, fellowship meals, meals in which members of a Christian community eat together in fellowship (JU 12)

AND…

For the entire law is fulfilled in keeping this one command: “Love your neighbor as yourself.” (Galatians 5:14 NIV)

AND that is only possible through God the Holy Spirit!!!
